Endings, I absolutely hate writing them. I feel like getting to the end of a novel is such a monumental thing and so much has gone into it that I can’t ever get the right words to come out to wrap things up nicely. This year, with this National Novel Writing Month endeavour was no different. I reached the 50k mark with this story tonight and just in the nick of time too ’cause I’ve actually run out of story. ^_^ This novel isn’t the best literary work that I’ve ever created, actually I’d say that it’s among my worst but I did win bringing my count to eight tries and four wins… a 50/50 win-loss record, not so bad in my books. ^_^ This year has been quite a roller coaster. I got ahead really early on and then struggled with meeting my word counts. The last couple days however I just powered on and look at the pretty stat bar… I made it with two days to spare, something that has never EVER happened before. Though I’m not sure about the quality of my novel, the elation of winning isn’t going to fade anytime soon and it gives me confidence to finish the other novel stories that I’m working on and I’ve got 367 days until National Novel Writing Month 2012. ^_^
Monthly Archives: November 2011
There is one cardinal rule of writing that I have, never write out of order. I always figure that if I don’t know where I’m going, then skipping ahead is the worst thing that I can do. However, with this novel writing endeavour that I’m doing, just like last year I’ve found myself writing out of order. Two scenes from the climax of the battle and the ending scene have popped into my head and I’ve written them down seeing how I’ve been totally stuck on my main plot. I’m not sure how much I like this story… but I’m far too far to stop now. *crosses fingers* Here’s hoping that I can do it.
It’s day twenty-one and the writing of this novel is getting hard. As I write this, I’m about a thousand words away from today’s goal and I’ve got to say that this novel is a hard one to write. I’m not liking the characters, I’m not liking the plot and I’m not liking anything about it. I’m too far into this now to stop writing, but this novel that I’m going to have at the end of this month will probably never see the light of day which is really sad considering that I’ve never not liked something that I’ve written….
Alright, so I’m ten days in, at 18011 words (ahead of the game, yay!) and my plot is sort of somewhat coming together. One of my main characters is just about to enter her first battle and once that happens I feel as though the rest of the plot will really come together. ^_^
Okay, so I’m six days in to the National Novel Writing Month 2011 challenge and I’m already at 13,335 words. It’s pretty much where I was for last year I think… although looking on last year’s stat thing it’s hard to tell.
I was just starting to lose hope on this story, but thank the writing gods for the fact that I had to drive my sister to university tonight. I was able to write more than 2k on the car ride up and back to put me at a whopping 4841 for today. ^_^
My story was going to be a regency romance, and then it was going to be an Egyptian adventure or a search for Excalibur. Then it was going to be about the Last Fae on Earth and THEN on November 1st I started writing a Power Rangers inspired story without the power rangers or the zords or anything remotely resembling the show actually except that there are six teenagers and one of them is going to turn evil… so it’s power ranger inspired now I guess. Either way, I thought that I wasn’t sure where this novel was going and now, I’m actually super stoked to write it. ^_^
Bring it on November! ^_^
